Parting

Loud music, random smses, calendar updates of upcoming appointments, online TV and a whole load of worries about what is going to happen on Mondays. These are the typical distractions that are keeping me from writing and reflecting on this blog.

I took a break from life today, breaking the infinite loop of work after dance and dance after work. I brought a packet of sour cream chips and a bottle of lemonade, costing me SGD$3, which is about the total cost of my life today.

It reminds me how simple life can be if I am willing to lead it that way.

I'm waiting for an email from someone I met on the plane to Thailand. Her name is Lena and she spent the last 10 months doing voluntary work in places like Amazon, Africa and other parts of the world. After her last destination in Chingmai, she would come back to Singapore and resume her work as a Lawyer.

It fascinates me when I meet people who can lead alternate lifestyles from the socially defined set everyone else is having here.

In fact, I am a little sick of the coroporate life even though I have only been in it for 2 years. The idea of working because I am making a living just isn't appealing at all. I do not like to make a living for the sake of it. And that isn't the reason why I came into this industry at all.

I like to push technologies and computer vision is one of the subjects I'm particularly interested in. However, I have not seen much progress in this field in the past 2 years. We are made to push this technology to totally irrelevant places because we need the revenue. The products were created for its own sake, with no answer to the needs of the users.

I was told that making sales has nothing to do with the products, and how true that is. I can fully understand why the other salespeople from other companies have no knowledge of their products at all, and yet they can push thousands of boxes into the customers hands. I know I can never do that, I do not want to do it either.

Hence, I have a strong feeling that is is going to be the end of this current lifestyle. The past 2 years have been a blast. It gave me good expsure, a lot of insights and most importantly, it helped me define what I want in my life. Now I am going to shape it, with some time for adjustment of course.

I will be going after my once in a lifetime experiences
