About bettering mankind

It started with a question in class two years back.

"When you check the websites, how many companies state their mission as being the most profitable organization?"

Almost none.....

"And that's because every company has a soul. They exist because they believe they are bettering mankind, all in their own ways. And once they are proven otherwise, they'll cease to exist."

But sir, I can name dozens of vocations that do mankind no good, yet they're paying good. Take for example, the stocks traders who learn to click the right buttons at the right time, they're not contributing to the production of anything, and if anything, they're wasting electricity and creating unnecessary paperwork. Why do these people earn so much more than farmers who grow enough food to feed everyone else on this planet?

"Maybe they'll soon be out of existence though I doubt it. Our system isn't perfect, but it's the driving force behind every improvement we'll see. So right now, we have to live with this imbalance"

Do we?
