blogging at random

A thought just came to me. Judging from the way some people analyse movies, I can give them anything and they'll be able to decipher great meanings from it. Maybe I'll take my dustbin and show them what goes in and out for 2 solid hours.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Exams are round the corner. It is the pimple season again, season of camping in libraries and fastfood restaurants. Soon I'll have nightmares of textbooks chasing me down a library again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My teacher had explained why movies are so entertaining. It is related to the male gaze and male sex. A movie allows us to peep into another person's life. To maintain the male gaze, we must know we are always observing in the dark. It is analogous to a guy beowing a girl. The pleasure of such is to remain discreet. We are all voyeurs.

Mainstream movies always follow a certain trend. There is first an introduction, follow by developments, climax and then the end of the movie. This is very similar to sex for guys.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dying lah. My life seems to revolve around school, npcc and slacking. I wonder if i'm neglecting other aspects. I really feel I'm walking down a dull greyish road.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Recently, I've been trying to find "cut" on the internet but to no avail. I wonder why it's so hard to find when other lok kok movies can be found easily. Really pek cek.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I want my honours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I want to slack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wayward cloud

FIrst paper in exactly 2 weeks time. I was reading the discussion forum on Cinematics yesterday and was amused by how some interpret films.

QUote by XX
Firstly, the symbols, I saw the watermelon as a complete whole of Taiwan. When it is cut into half, it has two halves of a complete watermelon. I likened the halves to the pro-unification camp and the other to the pro-independence camp in the political arena in Taiwan. The two female lead also represents the two respective camps and the male lead is symbolic of Mainland China.

Quote 2 by XX
In the closing scene, it gets even more interesting. I felt that the unconsciousness of the porn actress (representing pro-unification) tells me that this camp is totally incapacitated and unable to see people (China people) manipulating them. Bear in mind that the other girl symbolic of pro-independence dragged her out of the lift and watched a porn film about her and then decided to drag her away. This is symbolic of how the pro-independence camp tried to reach out to the other camp for unity, however, upon watching the porn film (representing the media manipulation), realizes that there is no hope in getting the porn actress to wake up from her delusions and decided to send her away (turn about for pro-independence camp’s effort to reach out to the pro-unification). The exaggeration of the cameraman, lighting crew and director serve to drive home the idea of representation of the mass media, while the director seems to me to be the old generation of the Communist party and the man that is screwing the girl to be that of the current leaders of China. It seems like the old generation of leaders are still directing the way the current leaders are tackling the situation of reunification. The cameras (mass media) seems to tell us that what we see is media manipulation of depicting the situation saying China treats Taiwan (rather the only the pro-unification camp) with respect by having sex the normal way (meaning unification of two bodies with pleasure for both) when in fact he desires the girl in the window partitioned (representing the borders of Taiwan and China). The girl at the window is able to watch what is really going on (i.e. manipulation) and yet lusts for it because deep down that is what she hopes for too. Yet, upon climaxing the guy shoves his penis into the girl behind the window’s mouth. This representing the fact that China is not satisfied with just having the pro-unification camp and desires to have the pro-independence camp as well. Yet the mere fact of the position of being at a higher ground by the man (China) and shoving his penis into the mouth of the girl (pro-independence camp) shows that China wants to have a submission by the pro-independence camp for it’s own gratification. The tears represent the sadness that reunification is not possible when China only wants to make use of Taiwan. This coupled with the backdrop of the Taiwanese airline poster girls on the other side of the wall also served to demarcate the two zones. That is to say, Taiwanese airlines are not granted direct flights into China airspace, thus the boundary division

The film in discussion is "wayward cloud" directed by Tsai Ming-liang in 2005. It portrays the repetitive joyless sex of sex actors, juxtapose against musical sequences. The movie seems metaphorical with its extensive display of objects that are seemingly hinting at something, and the pain (or joy?) of watching this movie is to guess the underlying meaning the director is trying to bring across. What distrubs me is that while other students are able to link the movie to political or social issues, I'm only able to read the film as how it is presented. What I know of the film is only what is told to us explicitly by the director, which is nothing.

However, after reading the discussion forum, I made an interesting observation. All the opinions on what the film is really about differ. The one that is quoted above for example, links water melon as a whole of taiwan, and cutting it into halves represents the pro unification and independence halves. I think the link is very weak, but is there a way to prove him wrong? There are 101 different opinions and which one is really correct? Is there even an accurate answer to this kind of film?

Perhaps the film triggers different emotions and memories from its audience, and that provides the unique experiences to the individuals. Unfortunately, I can't link it to anything. I hate art films.

What is more interesting for me is the war that is breaking out in the forum. I hope the teacher will not stop it prematurely.

quote 3 by YY

Political hints are seen, apparent or subtle(depends on how you interpret it), in this film. however I disagree with XX's assertion that the entire film is so much about politics. The fact that the so called "pro-independence lead" longs to have an intimate relationship with the male lead has already repudiated your argument.
Film viewers without much in-depth understanding of the cultural and political environment that contributes to the making of the film usually tend to delight themselves with the rationalization of their seemingly smart judgement.

Quote 4 by XX
Hi YY, nice to hear from you after a long hiatus. Taking a second dig at me for being harsh the first time round? =) If NTU were to have a political science course, u'll top the class... All the best for the coming exams...

This is even more interesting than the movie

Time is a strange thing. A week seems painfully long while 3 months fly past without any trace. Not too long ago I found out that my brother would be clearing leave a few weeks before my exams and now I see him happily shaking his legs at home. That means my 4th semester is coming to an end and I haven't prepare anything for my exams.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Life now is like walking in the maze of Destiny's garden. Never in my life was I offered so many paths to choose from. Being miserably monotonous, I sticked to the dull grey pathway that I had always been taking, ignoring the colourful other paths along the way. The thing is that in this maze the plants are so thick that it is impossible to see where each path leads. People who walk this part of the garden do not choose their destinations, they stumble upon them. The grey road is as good as the other colourful ones. Yet, I walked only on the grey one and found myself very lost. Sometimes, I wonder where the paths I never took extend to.
The dull grey path is known as the path of comfort. There are no thorns on this path as I imagine the other paths to have. The grey path is mostly downhill, so it makes walking easier. Scenery along the path is always the same, but there are new plants or fruits to see once in a while. The path stretched out in a spiral and it is impossible to see the end of the route.
Many times, shiny silver pathways appear along the way, diverting to places that I want to go, namely successes. These paths are straight and long. However I always avoid them because most of them run up a steep slope. The shiny surface makes walking on these paths extremely unbearable.
Red paths appear once in a while. I avoid the red ones more than the shiny ones. Red paths are rumoured to be full of thorns and they lead to extreme places. Some of them lead to depression while some lead to happiness. It bothers me that I have rarely summon enough courage to walk red paths.
The blue paths are like traps along the other coloured paths. These are extremely steep paths that people normally fall and roll along. Once you're on a blue path, it is hard for you to go back to the other paths.
Want to guess the name of the silver, red and blue pathways?
ITE
I walked into the ITE for the first time in my life. Fully alert, I walked cautiously towards the canteen while I looked out for flying objects in my direction. At the foyer where banners and signs to welcome visitors were expected, there was only one that was not very welcoming: STAY OUT OF FIGHTS, DO NOT FOLLOW THE FLOW! The word "flow" really bothered me.
After 20mins of wandering, I decided that ITE wasn't scary afterall. The students looked friendly enough. They reminded me of my JC days, everyone having monday blues, dragging their feet to the classrooms in an orderly fashion. I was working as a laptop promoter for 8 hours there. It was an easy job because few people even walked past that area, hence there was nothing much to do except to look at the people. I was rewarded with a few beautiful sights in that 8 hours of people watching.
In the canteen, I could see rows of students studying. This would be a rare sight even in my university. In a single wing, there was 4 computer labs that I saw. I could see hyperactive students running from corridor to corridor, wrestling one another. Some cute girls were giggling girlishly, something that the higher educated girls seem to be less capable of. Guys playing roller hockey at the staircase. Everyone looked so happy.
ITE isn't a bad place at all.
About problems again
It became clear to me that I have been evading my problems rather than solving them. Because the problems are really too hard to tackle. Because it involves the whole family and I can't do much alone. Because old thinkings are really hard to change. Because I'm really really lazy and I always give myself excuses to delay.
My false sense of optimism has misguided me. I only realise how incapable I am when it dawned on me.
Just a boring update
Went on a paintball session on friday with HSC NPCC. I think it's more fun with this group of people. There was a new addition on the battle ground, a bridge that allowed one member from each team to cross over to enemy's ground. I took the bridge the 2 times I played and it brought so much thrills. It allowed me to attack the opponents at a closer range but exposed me to much more danger at the same time. Once I was out of cover, the pallets darted at my direction.
Lunch was at foodcourt in the shopping mall next to Yishun MRT. We discovered that they serve really good breaded fish and calamari. Lab lesson followed. It was easier this time round. The buttons on the equipments were all labelled properly and the staffs were friendlier.
Saturday, went for a lunch outing with 4 other training officers. We targetted for more people but there was something wrong with the Yahoogroup settings and many were not informed. We looked around for turkish cuisine and finally decided on one of the restaurants we saw. To my horror, I realised we actually went into an indian restaurant when I could hear the music they were playing. Indian food scare me alot. They have so many different spices and all seem to have extreme tastes. I always have the impression that Indians spend alot of time on finding ways to make the spiciest dishes and curry, all their dishes must be extremely spicy. I ordered sesame Naan (which is very similar to prata) and a tandori chicken. They didn't taste spicy at all (without adding the spices of course) and I was relieved. I must remember these two items when I visit an Indian restaurant again.
Sunday, tuition. At the same time, I had an excuse not to go to my father's social gathering, although there was part of me wanting to go. My tuition kids were still not making much progress, worrying.
Based on your drawing and the 10 answers you gave this is a summary of your personality:
You are sensitive and indecisive at times. You are a freedom lover and a strong person. You are shy and reserved. If you've drawn a cross on each of windows, you always want to live alone. Once you have a problem, you need a friend with you. son.
You will avoid being alone and seek the company of others whenever possible. You love excitement and create it wherever you go. You have a strong personality and you like to command, influence and control people.
You added a flower into your drawing. The flower signifies that you long for love. We also see that you are sensuous, sexual, and privately passionate. You don't think much about yourself.
pig
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
You drew the pig:
Toward the top of the paper, you are positive and optimistic.
Facing front, you are direct, enjoy playing devil's advocate and neither fear nor avoid discussions.
With few details, you are emotional and naive, they care little for details and are a risk-taker.
With 4 legs showing, they are secure, stubborn, and stick to their ideals.
The size of the ears indicates how good a listener you are.
The bigger the better. You drew medium sized ears, you are a good listener
The length of the tail indicates the quality of your sex life.
And again more is better! You drew small tail :)
sleeping troubles
Whenever I sleep, i feel dehydrated. I think I'm always losing moisture to the surroundings when I'm on bed. My lips will dry to a point I think they'll crack. My throat becomes so dry that even breathing is painful. Drinking water won't help. I can finish a bottle of water and it'll only make me visit the toilet more.
Is there something wrong??
first impression
What's your first impression of me?
I came to realise that some of my friends didn't like me when they first see me. One of them told me I was staring at him fiercely. Another one said I was dao. One close friend said I looked yaya.
i feel so bad sometimes
weiguang says:
cannot compare..
weiguang says:
we lead diff life..
weiguang says:
we chose diff routes..
weiguang says:
but i must say something..
weiguang says:
luck is something u cannot exclude in all your successes and accomplishments..
zhongyi - !h6uoyz says:
that is true
weiguang says:
i have depended on it sometimes to achieve that something extra..
zhongyi - !h6uoyz says:
haha
zhongyi - !h6uoyz says:
but it's good habit not to make luck over significant
weiguang says:
from the day i knew you all in NPCC.. .. .. luck has been with me ever since..
zhongyi - !h6uoyz says:
haha
zhongyi - !h6uoyz says:
weiguang says:
..
weiguang says:
u can say tat..
zhongyi - !h6uoyz says:
zhongyi - !h6uoyz says:
since now we're on how to lead life
zhongyi - !h6uoyz says:
i wanna ask
zhongyi - !h6uoyz says:
what do u see urself in 10 yrs time
zhongyi - !h6uoyz says:
how u want life to be?
weiguang says:
weiguang says:
muahaha..
zhongyi - !h6uoyz says:
den how do u measure success?
zhongyi - !h6uoyz says:
money?
weiguang says:
..
weiguang says:
tats tough..
zhongyi - !h6uoyz says:
or social status?
weiguang says:
zhongyi - !h6uoyz says:
weiguang says:
it has never come across my mind just yet.. .. .. i think i will know tats success when it comes.. .. ..
weiguang says:
zhongyi - !h6uoyz says:
so what u see now is an executive flying around to do biz
zhongyi - !h6uoyz says:
weiguang says:
global exposure would make you a more sought-after executive..
weiguang says:
cuz..
weiguang says:
more exposure to hardship..
weiguang says:
and more learning experience..
weiguang says:
will train to meet challenges..
weiguang says:
i am telling myself to succeed everytime.. with the right ppl and timing.. things seems to go my way.. i wonder how would i react when i am really screwed to the max.. .. ..
weiguang says:
or even beyoond the max..
weiguang says:
i know it will come..
zhongyi - !h6uoyz says:
most probably
weiguang says:
and it will come as a super hard one..
zhongyi - !h6uoyz says:
something that breaks u down entirely
zhongyi - !h6uoyz says:
so that you grow stronger after surviving it
zhongyi - !h6uoyz says:
Weekend feasts
I was treated to 2 incredible dinners over the weekend.
Friday, Rong Shen held a mini celebration at Crystal Jade Xiao Long Bao. The La mian and the xiao long baos were good. The company was even better. Everyone was attacking Siliang who was late for 45mins until he couldn't defend himself. Benjamin should have taken law insted of medicine since he's able to corner people and drive them crazy.
Desert was at.... can't remember where. We had fondue at a very cheap price.
Saturday, my father insisted I attend his social gathering. His old friends all brought their children. Our job at the dinner was to sit and look pretty while the parents talk about their past and their kids. It was kind of embarassing because it was a table full of strangers for me. The dinner was very good. My dad said it would cost at least 1k if it wasn't a treat.
There..... my ops plan to train up and slim down over the weekend was disrupted
Very quickly.....
This is what the boys did in 9 mins
And this is what I did in an hour. Supposed to present 22 of this to the campcraft teams for their hardwork, but in less than half an hour, it was destroyed by Yuwen!!!!!
