My other world

Outside reality, there's another world I live in.

This world is the size of a town, situated on a spaceship or an island at different times. The occupants feed on a special fruit to stay immortal. Death has no place in my world.

The people in this world are people I like. They once lived on Earth but moved to the new terrain under my leadership. We explored the place and built up a new town.

In this town, all of us play a different role. I am the chief electronics engineer of the town. I build the computers, the handphones, computer games and handheld consoles. I also build robots that sweep the road and wash the toilets.

Animals are free to roam the streets. The animals in this world are friendly creatures and they live peacefully with the town people and robots. Many town people even make friends with the animals but they never own any. Of course, mosquitoes and flies do not exist in my world.

Everynight, bands perform in a big restaurant where all the town people gather. The special fruits that taste like sandwiches are served by the bears carring plates on their heads. Drinks are specially concocted by the bartenders. Sometimes, i will be singing on the stage to feel how it's like to be a performer, but I'll never make it my job.

I can't remember what else is in my world.... maybe I'll go visit it soon to find out

A! R! G!

I AM so STPTID..... I can't even spell stupid properly.

Was doing online ticket booking for X-men3. I never used the service before so I was very cautious. I checked my card number 3 times before i clicked on the proceed tab. I also requested they send me a confirmation sms at an extra cost of 20 cents even though they were already sending me an email. I double checked the date and time. I received my sms and I checked it a few times.

What could go wrong?

I booked the tickets at the wrong cinema and my friends are backing out!!!!

Labmate A: we've discovered that putting the 9v battery terminals on your tongue won't kill you, it'll just give you a little shock. Want to try?

Me: What? why do you want to do that?

Labmate A: Must always try new things mah. Try leh.

Me: Try to drink shampoo lah.

Labmate B: Shampoo is bitter.

201

Tomorrow I'll finally do my membership registration at the gym. This is my only solution to stop myself becoming a ball since I can't run for weeks. Luckily I've found myself 2 gym kakis.

I asked my father to teach me how to write a cheque. What's seemingly easy is actually quite complicated. The little drawings you make on the cheque have different functions. My father was apparently very excited. He gave me alot of instructions even when I was doing a simple thing like tearing along the dotted lines. When I was halfway through it, his patience ran out and he snatched the book away from me. Torn page. My first cheque was wasted. Anyway, I forgot how my signiture looks like so I anyhow hum tum.

I spent the rest of the night checking my email. Ever since I joined foc yahoogroup, I have to check my email everyday to make sure the storage limit is not exceeded. The FOC is the thing i'm really looking forward to. Judging from the proposal and the amount of interaction, this is going to be really big. woohoooooooooo

200!!!

According to the dashboard, this is my 200th entry!!! woohoo

Ok. First, I'll talk about my programming project. We had a big breakthrough on wednesday after spending hours tracing libraries in the sample program. It was like walking in a big maze, there were programs within programs, libraries inside libraries. Finally, we found the function we needed just before Gary showed us that the computer has an auto-tracing function. Nonetheless, it is still a GREAT breakthrough and human beings will always remember that wednesday.

My DIP group is going the right direction. The first day everyone tried to look busy but now nobody bothers to act anymore. We have coffee break after tea break before we go for lunch. And the best thing is we manage to produce results. This, I feel, we have the direct-intake people to thank. They know much more than we do. Hopefully the following weeks will be as slack.

I have those things called corns? on my foot. I feel the pain whenever press my left foot on the ground. So on thursday, I went to the school clinic to see the doc. She assured me that it's a very common thing and the treatment is painless. She also assured me that I can resume my normal activities during the period of treatment. That gave me great relief. However, the actual treatment involved a nurse cutting up the infected area, which was quite deep into the skin, and freezed up the wound. The process wasn't painful, but walking home was. So was playing basketball on friday. I have to attend 2 other sessions. The good thing is the nurses there are very friendly. They chatted with me while my skin was being cut away.

I'm so tempted to upload a pic of my foot...

And my mother suggested it may be diabetes, which starts rotting from the feet. Damn scary. I'm taking too much sweet things.

Exciting things are coming. LMSC and ATC in june, FOC in July. I'm looking forward to the NPCC FOC because this is the first one ever in history, so we're putting in every effort to make this successful. I'm also asked to join hall camp even though I'm not in hall anymore, but I got to check if the kahkis are going.

Yes. I'm also signing up a 3 month membership to a gym to make myself go regularly. Since I can't run these few weeks, this has to be the solution. Gym kahkis?

first day of DIP

Today is the first day of DIP. I managed to stay awake throughout the orientation lecture even though I was lacking in sleep. My DIP group consists of 21 people, 20 of which are guys. The only friend I have in the group was involved in a car accident (thankfully he did not sustain any injury) and hence my greatest challenge of the day was to get to know the team members.

Then the prof came in and decided to speak to us in Numbers. It sounded something like this:" First, we 345 the 6765 which has 8 AMD945 that links to 456 and 2 G567 which has 5 other 567 which we can use for 234 which is 38473 and 83749023794823904sfe 8902384378978973378927893389070273172 ." Translating it to any known human language, it would be :"?????????????????????????????????????????????!"

Anyway, we were split into smaller groups and my group has been tasked to design a program that will translate the gamepad input into useful waveforms that will be sent out by the ethernet router. Spent the whole day trying to find the solution but we did not have luck.

At night, I went to Hwee Yin's party with Darren. The whole chalet was filled with girls, which was so different from experience in the day. I was almost moved to tears. However, we didn't stay very long because we really don't know the people there.

So I'm back home now, preparing for another long day tomorrow.

Final fantasy 7

It is really troublesome to upload pictures onto blogspot

Everyone who has played Final fantasy 7 will agree that it is the best RPG game ever. Completing the game is probably my greatest achievement when I was a young boy in secondary 2. Although the characters in the game look like lego blocks, the game is so good that I'd almost believed I was living in that world. That is why I always feel I've lived part of my life in that game.

Fans of FF7 will already know about the movie. The movie has transformed the lego block characters into life-like yandaos and chiobus, just like how we imagined them to be. The only bad thing about the movie is that 2hrs isn't enough! Back to the game, it is so perfect! It has the perfect villain (as shown above), the perfect hero, the perfect kahkis, good music, good story, interesting little side quests and the perfect gameplay! The evil character Sephiroth is so Seh that fighting with him is really an honour. Multislash... bish bish bish bish bish.
This is Aeris, our dream girl. It broke many of my classmates hearts when she was killed by Sephiroth in the game. Some of us did intensive research on how to revive her while we neglected other important things like geography homework.
Chocobu, which is unfortunately not featured in the movie. I miss the days of chocubu racing. I had reared many good chocobus in my time.
I can't take it, I'm going to play the game again!

Voting day!!!

Met up with jason this morning to go to our primary school to vote. My lane at that time was empty and hence i only spent around 1.5mins at that place. It was really easy.

I think young people like me are really getting apolitical. Many uncles and aunties are gathering at various places waving flags and banners cheering for the party they support. Young people like me just stay home and kiao kah. Many of us are more excited about getting to vote for the first time than the policies the different parties are proposing. Occasionally one or 2 friends will come up with a theory about why the governement is good or bad but I doubt they really know what they are saying.

Anyway, I don't see our lives going to change much lah. We won't starve to death but we won't live like kings also. To be honest, I actually feel quite sian about the life that is ahead of me. After graduation at 25, I will have a debt of 30K to pay. Supposing I earn 2.6K a month as an engineer, I will need to pay 1K per month in order to clear within 3 years. And I have to deduct the money that goes to CPF and some other necessary expenses. My parents would have retired and my brother will be studying in NUS. That 3 years till I'm 28 will not be very pleasant. I'll try not to think what comes after 28.

All I can do now is to ensure I get a better paying job in the future

Sex, gender and sexuality

According to my lecturer, the 3 words have different meanings. Sex describes the bodily structure, gender describes the behavior and sexuality is the preference. In ancient times, it would be difficult to grasp because all 3 aspects should equate, i.e. man behaves like man and prefers women. In modern day, however, it is not uncommon to see a variety of combinations.

Man behaves like man prefers men, eg macho gay.
Woman behaves like man likes women, eg butch.
Man behaves like woman prefers men, eg sissy gay.
Woman behaves like woman likes women, eg les.
Man behaves like man likes women, eg MVP.
Woman behaves like woman prefers men, eg classical lady.
Man behaves like woman prefers women, eg SNAG.
Woman behaves like man prefers man, eg Tomboy.

To complicate matters, people no longer follow the binary system anymore. They stand on different segments of a wide spectrum. You can be 40% manly and 60% girly. You can have breasts inplanted while u keep your penis. You can like both men and women (or even animals and objects for that matter).

The question is, with so many different types of people around, should we be totally liberal and accept everyone's behavior and preferences. Should there be a limit to the level of acceptance we can give.

For example, it appears that many people think that homosexuality should be accepted. They tend to compare Singapore's restrictions on homosexual activities with countries like USA and comment that we are not that liberal yet (YET??). Do we really want to be that liberal? Many blogs are bashing homophobes and that is really worrying.

I personally think that homosexuality shouldn't be promoted. Firstly, based on their logic that everyone is entitled to behave as they like, they shouldn't be bashing the homophobes for the very same reason. Furthermore, does it mean that people having fetishes for beastiality should be allowed to carry out their fantasies even with the consent of the animal? That logic is flawed. Secondly, I think it's still Ok for gay couples who can't help themselves to be together. I'll see it like alcholism or compulsive gambling. However, there're so many gay couples who are standing out and fighting for rights. They want marridge, they want gay parties, they want gay movies they want gay porn they want gay rights. This isn't a problem of two individuals anymore. What if kids in the future think it's not cool not to be gay, just like how they think it's not cool not to have sex in many parts of the world that are too liberal. Can you imagine the outcomes?

To conclude, people shouldn't be judged on what they wear or how they walk. Sexual preferences and work capabilities are 2 different matters and members of the queer group should not be discounted when it comes to work. However, homosexualism should be regarded as a problem and we must always try to reduce and not promote it.

My future handphone

As part of the preparation to re-enter the civilian world, my brother is getting himself a new handphone. That provokes my envy because I will most likely have to wait for a year before I can change my handphone. Anyway, the recent discussions on the latest handphones have stirred up alot of excitement and I am already trying to imagine what my future handphone will be like.

Yesterday, I searched the internet for handphones that are coming soon. Many of them are potentially my future handphone. So far I'm most satisfied with K800i which has a 3.2 mega-pixel camera and P990 which is a PDA with 2 mega-pixel imaging quality. The W700 is also not bad considering it has good audio and imaging functions. I have to see their price list when they are released to decide better.

You see, the multimedia functions in the phone is really important to me. Imagine having everything intergrated into one device. My K700i is serving that purpose now but it is not strong enough. I like to have my camera, mp3 player, video player, handphone and organiser all compacted into something that fits in my pocket. I'm drooling now........

A fortune telling website told me I love machines more than humans, I think it's quite right

blahhhhhhhhhhhhh

Hm... I don't know what to write because I'm here because I can't sleep which is because I slept too much in the day because I was paying my sleep debt because yesterday was MADDAY because I had 2 papers because I didn't do my subject registration properly because I was lazy because I had other things to focus on because HOBTC was around that time too because December was the only time for such things because people are usually busy the rest of the year because schoolwork is really heavy because the singapore education system is very kiasu because we're living in a competitive world because there're too many people around because humans keep reproducing because they can't stop reproducing.
